Sally has sent her apologies early for the next meeting of the Trustees. The Trust appreciates that she will be on her Honeymoon. A satisfactory reason for absence if ever there was one!.

It has been a very busy few months for the Trust since the last meeting.

The Trust completed two reports on the Cinderhill Tar Pits site in Derbyshire for Harworth Group plc. These being on minewater movement from beneath the tar pits into the Derby Nottinghamshire Coalfield and a research document on the historic effects of the tar pits on the local watercourses including the Bottle Brook.

Two years ago the Trust was asked by the Environment Agency to look at this site with a view to decontaminating it.

Since the last meeting the Trust suggested to Harworth Group that it might consider the use of willows grown on the surface of the acid tar pits to stabilise the tar on site and decontaminate the tars to their full depth over time. Harworth commissioned the Trust to carry out a full scale trial on one of the large pits………
