Fifth Report of The Commissioners Appointed in 1869 to Inquire into the Best Means of Preventing the Pollution of Rivers. {Pollution Arising from Mining Operations and Metal Manufactures. 1874.
This is one of my favourite books/reports and the first report on mining and pollution carried out in the world.
The document is leather bound and contains maps of the mining areas of parts of the UK plus a national map detailing the main areas of worst pollution. It is remarkable that the areas marked are the same today and still minewater discharges pollute rivers or did prior to the installation of more than 70 treatment schemes. At least 1000 kilometres of river in the country are still affected by mine water and more from rock spoil and other mine related drainage.
